Fletcher Insulation helps usher in new era for NT netball

The Northern Territory’s netball players will soon have a new world-class stadium to call home. Fletcher Insulation was delighted to be chosen to provide the insulation products for the venue.

Marrara Netball Stadium, a state-of-the-art-facility in Darwin’s northern suburbs, is the latest addition to the city’s sporting landscape.

The venue, which includes three regular indoor courts and one show court with 2,000 seats (plus an additional 500 temporary seating for major events), will host Suncorp Super Netball matches, Deakin University Australian Netball League matches, National Netball Championships, as well as international matches featuring the Australian Diamonds.

Addressing the need to keep both players and spectators comfortable despite Darwin’s heat and humidity, the project’s architects specified a number of products from Fletcher Insulation, an industry leading provider of energy efficient and acoustic solutions to the residential, commercial, and industrial markets.

Roof installers, Politis Roofing used 130mm Pink® Building Blanket, in conjunction with Sisalation® Metal Roof, Roof Razor®, and Roofsafe® Safety Mesh on the stadium’s large roof (which measures approximately 6,100m²).

Non-combustible in accordance with AS1530.1 – 1994, Pink® Building Blanket is ideal for noise control in applications of this type with such a large roofing area. It effectively reduces sound transfer (caused by rain and so forth) from the exterior of the roof into the building.

In addition, it can be relied upon to reduce energy consumption and airconditioning costs, while providing year-round comfort.

As Politis Roofing Manager Rex Bellenger explained, a white Sisalation® foil (rather than the standard silver colour) was used on the underside of the blanket in order to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the stadium ceiling.

“That white interior ceiling typifies Fletcher Insulation’s willingness to customise its offerings according to clients’ needs. Without it, on a project of this scale, I think you might end up with something that looks like a shed,” said Rex.

“As it is, we’ve produced a clean, smooth look that’s completely in keeping with the rest of the fit-out.” Rex explained that most of Politis Roofing’s insulation work involves
Fletcher Insulation products. “They’re not only highly effective, they’re also good to work with,” he said.

He said he particularly likes working with the Roof Razor, which creates a barrier between the Pink® Building Blanket and the roof, ensuring that the insulation doesn’t get crushed and,
importantly, maximising the R value. In this application, the system achieved R3.2.

Having pre-ordered the insulation material, Politis Roofing finished the project on schedule and to budget. According to Rex, in part this can be put down to the relationship he has with Fletcher Insulation.

“I have worked with Darwin Branch Manager, Ashley Armstrong a lot over the years and I’ve never had any problems,” he said.

“It’s not just the quality of their products that keeps me with them, but also their service and general attention to detail. They help us generate thermal predictions for projects, for example, and are always ready to provide any other relevant information.

“We work closely with Ashley and the team to consider new products
and alternative ways to serve our customers.”

A world-class facility in every way, Marrara Netball Stadium is ready to start developing the Northern Territory’s (and Australia’s) next generation of elite netballers.
