Fletcher Insulation Used to Create Comfortable, Energy Efficient Living Spaces

Fair Dinkum Builds Western Sheds, a long-time client of Fletcher Insulation, recently completed a Class 1A liveable shed project in Karnup. The project required the design and build of a large shed suitable to house two large motor vehicles and act as a liveable dwelling for two people.

The Karnup Residency

As a Class 1A residential structure, the build was required to adhere to local regulations regarding liveability and safety, with correct temperature regulation and airflow playing pivotal roles in the shed’s approval.

The client was interested in a dark-coloured shed, which provided a sleek finished appearance but added an extra challenge to the shed’s heating and cooling. The additional heat that the dark colour would attract, created a need for high-quality insulation to provide adequate thermal protection.

The Fair Dinkum Build Western Sheds Challenge

When considering how they would proceed with the build, the team at Fair Dinkum Build Western Sheds was eager to create a living space that could maintain comfortable temperatures year-round.

However, they wanted to achieve this without compromising on the dark colour or relying on year-round heating and cooling. Instead, they sought an energy efficient solution, believing that high quality insulation could provide the outcome they were looking for.

The Fletcher Insulation Product Solution

For the Fair Dinkum Build Western Sheds project, Fletcher Insulation’s team collaborated with Western Sheds to address the challenges posed by the dark coloured shed and the hot Karnup climate. After a thorough assessment of the project’s performance requirements, Fletcher Insulation supplied Sisalation® Foam Cell Multipurpose which complies with NCC 2019 requirements, Permastop® 55mm Heavy Duty foil, and 175mm Pink® Batts Ceiling Insulation R3.5. The combination of products gave the shed the comprehensive thermal solution required for comfortable living.

“The front Sisalation Foam Cell was installed between sheeting purlins as a thermal break, and then the back insulation was installed between the Foam Cell and the dupe rock,” Andrew from Western Sheds explained. “This combination effectively stops heat transfer from the sheeting through to the internal steel and insulates both the internal and external areas.”

Amongst the competing options for insulation, Andrew Nairn, Managing Director of Fair Dinkum Build Western Sheds says that the quality of the product and speed of service provided by Fletcher Insulation stand out amongst the rest when it comes time to start on a new project.

The liveable shed at Karnup is no exception to the rule. Andrew was pleased with the ease of the installation process, with the insulation seamlessly fitting into the smooth proceedings of the shed construction process.

“The process was 100% easy,” Andrew noted “My wife and I put in most of the batt insulation cells ourselves”.

The ease of use, and the affordable cost of the Fletcher Insulation products, meant that this project was completed on schedule and on budget, with the shed now standing tall as a comfortable, energy efficient living space.

The thermal and noise properties of the Fletcher Insulation products, and the ease of use, were noted as being particularly standout by Andrew, who has used Fletcher Insulation across many projects and testifies to their strong quality. Even though it was a large shed affected by heavy rain, Andrew found that with the Fletcher Insulation products, communication inside the shed was easy and had no issues. “The service is always good; they always deliver on time and they communicate well. They are very easy to deal with” said Andrew.
